CHALLENGE

A Wall Street trader attended my ‘Get That Job!’ workshop and reached out via my website to explore private coaching. She was in an incredibly challenging situation, as she was let go six months before, striking out with job boards and recruiting firms.

Candidly, she was stuck, demotivated, and didn’t know what to do next, whom to listen to, and how to move forward. It’s a terrible spot to be in (I run into it all the time when I present to groups) —  she desperately needed a guide to help her get out of her predicament and make her way back to Wall Street.

ACTION

We began by defining her immediate and long-term goals, developing a 30/60/90 day roadmap, and frame a better understanding of her industry environment and who are the real movers and shakers. We then built an ‘Ideal Company Wish List’ — targeting 20-25 potential organizations — to better understand the wants and needs of the client and where to focus our energies (it’s a tool I furnish to clients).

With a laser-focused lens, we were able to update her resume, LinkedIn profile, marketing sheets, cover letters, and contact scripts. I rounded out her weekly ‘homework’ by having her access my 45+ online masterclasses to hone her body language skills, question-handling, salary negotiation, and interview answers.

RESULT

It was evident a few organizations were wasting her time with long, drawn-out interview schedules and never making a decision — her luck pivoted when she reached out to a CEO who was desperately looking for someone like her to lead a team.

Our work together over the past 6-8 weeks culminated in a home-run interview that catapulted her into her present position. She’s been in that role for the past nine months, is quickly moving up the ladder, and frequently works closely with the CEO that first noticed her.

I still coach her today on career and leadership growth.
