CHALLENGE

Siobhán applied for an open SVP position with her current employer but, after a few interviews, wasn’t given the role.

Reasons noted were that her past initiatives missed deadlines, her people were unmotivated, and there were employee morale concerns.

ACTION

Our 360° Leadership Assessment identified key areas for her to improve to be a stronger, more confident leader and get better results from her team, peers, and superiors.

Following the 360° Feedback, we were asked to implement a one-on-one coaching program (bi-weekly sessions) to support Siobhán’s development. Our coaching plan was centered around improving three areas:

  • Improve Siobhán’s performance through coaching and mentoring her staff.

  • Place more focus on meeting deadlines and staying within budget guidelines.

  • Encourage collaboration, flexibility, and teamwork toward organizational objectives.

After six-months, we initiated a follow-up 360° to evaluate Siobhán’s progress and to see if she was ready for a promotion to SVP.

Results showed she had improved in many of the identified regions and had been utilizing different strategies to manage and interact with others.

Siobhán had become much more engaged with her people, providing them with more opportunities, guidance, and feedback. People became more robust through the changes she made in her leadership style.

When people feel valued and appreciated, they are more likely to work harder toward business objectives. Siobhán's effort in building better relationships with people helped her work through issues, resolve conflicts, and earn their support.

RESULT

Siobhán’s increased focus on the welfare of her team had the effect of building morale and encouraging people to work together.

With more straightforward objectives and more collaboration, people were on the same page and working more efficiently.

Siobhán’s second 360° showed marked improvement in communication, ownership, and creativity. She acted more like a leader and showed more team accountability.

We continued to coach Siobhán for 12 months and were thrilled by her demonstrated improvement.

She has become a more focused and balanced leader who is ready for any challenge delegated by the leadership team.
